What I’m Looking Forward to in 2020

Gosh. We’ve entered a new decade and to be honest, it feels like I’ve just
settled back into whatever was going on last year.

Which means buckling up for the long ride because I plan on launching March
2nd, 2020, my debut novel Alpha and Omega! [This is such a quiet splash lol].

Self-promotional spiel aside, I’m really looking forward to a few things on other media, namely animated cartoons and Japanese anime.

First off on the block: Rick and Morty. You know, the rest of the
unannounced Season 4. Rick and Morty holds a special place in my heart: the
humor is dark, witty, and intelligent, and Rick himself is my favorite
character. I can quite imagine myself becoming just as jaded, alcohol dependent,
and conniving had I lived in his shoes: there’s something about his nihilism that
speaks to me.

I’m an idealist at heart. And there’s a disappointed one in every cynic that
still breathes.

I’m not the biggest fan of Season 3 (it basically came full circle). Season
4 though, is moving up the ranks of my favorite seasons thus far. While the jokes
are becoming more predictable (you can always guess that the punchline is that
no one likes Jerry), Rick and Morty themselves are are showing growth as foil
characters. While Rick is becoming more empathetic (or at least, easier to
empathize with), Morty is becoming more like Rick: still self-centered, but
willing to sacrifice morality for the sake of the goal, e.g. the episode,
“Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat.” Ends justify the means.

Their growths as characters fascinate me: every episode is a well-written
arc from start to end, even if it’s not considered a “entertaining”
episode to most. I guess most of us are still waiting for that side plot to
rear its head again: Evil Morty anyone?

And second, off this very short list of things: is One Punch Man Season 3.
While no release date has been announced, it most likely will be at the end of
2020, or in 2021.

While I agree with most of the criticisms surrounding Season 2 (the sloppy
animation, the lack of Saitama’s screen time), I still enjoy the anime for what
it is. As it branches away from Saitama’s hero complex, it explores more about
what is fascinating in this superhero filled world: the hierarchy of power and politics, and the conflicts it shows in mankind. In an environment where characters are able to nuke a city with ease, physical fistfights are just that: fistfights. Entertaining, but too much makes the media without substance. It’s the problems that mankind makes for itself what piques my interest: and that is what Season 2 brought to the table. Not only with their new anti-hero Garou, but with the issues between S-class heroes and everyone else.

There are more things that are in my bucket list: I plan to read 25 books this year and post my progress on my GoodReads page and I’ve started with finishing a book I’ve started since August 2019. Iron Gold by Pierce Brown.

You guys, it was a ride. If you’ve not read the Red Rising series as of yet but you love a dark, gritty, politics driven YA, I highly suggest the read. It is still one of my most favorite trilogies to date, and probably the one post 2000 era. Yes, my tastes run in the 90’s — but I’m a 90’s kind of kid.

And that will be it for this week’s rant! Update next Wednesday–with some fun stuff around the corner!
